GREAT DIVIDE MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE PRAYER
May 2, 2007 I wanted to thank Glenn Segond, my Pastor from back home, for taking the time to write up a prayer for our trip along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Ride. Below is the letter and prayer that he sent me. I wanted to share it with everyone. Glenn, thank you so much for the help and the spiritual support for our journey. Last Sunday when you called asking for a prayer, it happened to be “Good Shepherd Sunday”. The lessons for the day emphasis how Christ is the good shepherd and we are the sheep that hear his voice. The psalm for the day is the 23rd Psalm “the Lord is my shepherd”. In my sermon, I emphasized and encouraged everyone to each day; recite both the 23rd Psalm and the Lords Prayer as part of their devotional time, with the assurance that doing so would enhance their spirituality and faith.
So the prayer below is a take off of the 23rd Psalm, I hope you and Ryan find it helpful and it enhances your journey.
The Lord is my trail guide, I shall not want; he helps me ride through green meadows. He leads me on the path of life; he daily restores my strength and spirit.
Even though we ride through dark and dangerous valleys, I will not be anxious for you are with me. My water bottle is forever full.
Surely, goodness and mercy will follow me each day of our ride and I will celebrate the beauty of the Lord’s creation.
The following is a suggested prayer to be used at the end of a day’s journey.
Lord God, Thank you for your protection and guidance this day. You have called us to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths and trails as yet unexplored. Give us faith to rest peacefully knowing that your hand is leading us and your love is supporting us. Amen
